DISTRIBUTION LISTS
We have created two distributions lists scc_active at computerhistory.org and
scc_announce at computerhistory.org. You should have received by now the notice
of your registration to one or the other list. Thanks to Chacko and Mike for
helping.
The scc_announce at computerhistory.org list will have a broader group of
interested volunteers who want to follow the activities of the SCC but do
not want to have too much email from the committee. Always distributed to
the list will be the agenda, minutes and documents presented at the
committee meetings. In essence that list will see typically once a month
most of the traffic that the existing distribution list has seen.
As we add more members to the committee this list is the one we expect to
see the greatest growth. You were selected for that list by the indications
you gave to me in previous discussions. If you want to switch to the more
active list you are quite welcomed. Send me an email and we should be able
to it.
The scc_active at computerhistory.org is directed at the more selected group of
the volunteers that have attended several meetings or are willing and
committed to exchanging more frequent emails to discuss the important issues
facing the committee. I expect that this list will grow more slowly. It will
received all the messages of the scc_announce at computerhistory.org, but a
larger number of them will be send by its members and only received by that
sublist. If you want to switch to the less active list you are quite
welcomed. Send me an email and we should be able to it.
The most important impact of this set up is that from now on all emails will
be logged in an archive for new and interested parties to read.
This is why I used the aliases today while we have not finished the sep up
or even understood fully the art of using the tool. As we did not want to do
experiments by sending test messages to 60 plus people we have created a
temporary set up while we do the rest of the installation work.
The two lists are currently independent while logically scc_announce should
be a superset of scc_active. I believe one can only send the list one is
registered to. Logically we would want scc_announce to go to all members
while scc_active should only go to its members. ... I'll stop bothering you
with the details.
We are also in the process of creating lists for the various test cases
scc_fortran scc_macpaint etc ...
FINALLY to test if we have not forgotten any interested volunteer you will
receive this "distribution lists" message via the old distribution list that
I was maintaining. If you do not receive this message twice that means you
were dropped by mistake. Send me an email and we will correct the situation.
