I agree too. Here's one lot I've looked into a bit: lot 58
(http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/search/LOTDETAIL.ASP?sid=&intObjectID=4443526),
consisting of "Together 8 items in a single volume bound in black cloth.
Provenance: Institut für Praktische Mathematik, Technische Hochschule,
Darmstadt, with rubber stamp." Of the 8 items (see referenced web page
for details), I have already possess scanned and/or hard copies from
varous sources of 5 items. There are two photocopies of letters by John
Backus and a copy of another early manual that I haven't come across so
far. Incidentally, I sent Jeremy Norman an email last night asking if
we could scan those three items -- I haven't heard back yet.
Interestingly, the collection does not seem to include the original 1954
memo describing the initial plans for the project.
