SCC Friends

The attached questionnaire was prepared by Jim McClure, an intern at the
CHM.  Jim also is a masters-degree student in the Museum Studies department
of John F. Kennedy University, in Berkeley.  Several of our current CHM
staff graduated from that program.  
 
Jim is doing research on strategies and techniques for exhibiting software
in computing museums.  As part of that research, he is comparing the actual
software-related interests of museum visitors to the perceptions of visitor
interests that are held by museum and software-industry professionals.  In
addition, he is collecting information on attempts to exhibit software (both
past and planned) and on opinions about goals, priorities, and techniques
for exhibiting software.  
 
The questionnaire has been sent to several hundred people, nationwide, and
it is not a review of the CHM.  In fact, it does not have anything directly
to do with the CHM.  Jim is anxious for input from the Committee, however,
because Committee members are in a unique relationship with both museums and
software. Jim will, of course, share his findings and conclusions directly
with the SCC and the CHM staff so that they can use the information to help
plan future CHM exhibits.
 
Not all the questions in the attached questionnaire will be relevant to
everyone - the questionnaire was designed for a wide variety of people and
you should just skip any questions that you don't feel relate to you.  You
don't need to provide any personal information, but Jim would appreciate any
notes on your background that you think might help put your responses in
context.
