[SCC_Active_Members] FW: RE the prospective DCC Digital Curation Manual

As you may know, the British intellectual heritage community is among the
best organized in the world for discussion and implementation of digital
object archives. The attached notes sketch its beginning action to create a
"best practices" manual for digital preservation to the extent that doing so
is today possible. (Some people regard part of the topic an urgent subject
for research.) I believe that this work will create a useful reference for
the Computer History Museum.

Attached FYI is a topical summary (in the form of an MS Word document) of
each of approx. 20 chapters that are being requested from prospective
authors. In some cases, the author's name is listed; I presume that this is
whenever someone has agreed to produce the chapter he/she was asked for.

Attached are pertinent excerpts from recent correspondence. Notice that the
lead editor, Seamus Ross is keen to have suggestions for improvement.

Best wishes, Henry

Do you and your colleagues have any objection to my sharing this
material (specifically, the outline of prospective chapters) with the
Software Collection Committee of the Computer History Museum (CHM).
The current Museum repository has controls that provide reasonable
(not perfect) protection that the material will not leak beyond its
 staff and volunteer community.
