I received the book scanner yesterday, and set it up this morning.

It does seem to work as advertised, though the Photoshop clone that
comes with it seems painfully slow doing SOMETHING to the image once
it's been transfered over USB2 (which is pretty quick). Scan rate is
a few seconds/page (typical for flatbeds..) but it takes over 15
seconds before you can start the next scan. I'll have to play with
the software some more to see if there is some other software that
would work with their TWAIN driver, or if their batch page mode is
faster.

It would probably be OK if you had some one-off project (like a single
book) that you needed to scan. At $260, though, it's probably cheap
enough that you could get a few people working with them in parallel.
