10. "IEEE SOFTWARE" EXAMINES HISTORY & FUTURE OF SOFTWARE ARCHITECTURE This
month's issue of "IEEE Software" (v. 23, no. 2) examines the past, present
and future role of software architecture. In their introduction, the issue's
guest editors write that software architecture is the key to achieving
intellectual control over a sophisticated system's complexity.
The issue traces the importance software architecture has played, beginning
with the first NATO-organized conference in 1969, through the early nineties
and the creation of architecture description languages, to the bloom of the
mid 90s, finally speculating on what the future holds. Papers highlighted in
the issue discuss the precursors, news, pragmatics and processes involved
