Why not leave well enough alone?

Who are we trying to please?  What would a name change accomplish?

For whatever its worth, I have always seen documentation as part of
software.

BTW, I happen to like "SCC" a lot more than "SASHPC"!

I agree.

Also, preservation involves the history and documentation of the software. 
So I suggest Software and Software History Preservation Committee  (SASHPC)
