After re-reading all the mail and listening to the discussion yesterday.
I would say that 
Software Preservation Initiative sounds best to me.  It explains what we
attempt to do
'preserve software' and 'initiative' sounds active and as though the
position we desire 
is one of leadership.  It has somewhat more charisma than 'group', and
also places 
responsibility on us to actively pursue preserving software through
various means.  
It also implies that we are officially empowered by the CHM to do this.
