Believed lost, the orginal FORTRAN source code of Colossal Cave Adventure,
written by Will Crowthers, was recovered from a backup of
Don Woods's student account at Stanford. This was the first interactive
text adventure. It explored the real Colossal Cave in Kentucky. It was
written during
academic year 1975-1976. Woods expanded the
game to include invented locations in May 1977, and this version
was widely distributed. FORTRAN on the PDP-10, Woods was using SAIL.
