Software Preservation Friends

After polling several of the projects it seemed best to provide a brief
status email and cancel our originally planned  meeting  for tomorrow
Wednesday 2/21/2007 as it is always better to do than to meet:-).

*** C++

Paul had started a project on C++ to collect all of the papers of Bjarne
Stroustrup on the development of this critical language. The museum has
officially asked Bjarne to donate his papers. He has accepted and is getting
other contributors to donate their papers. We are very pleased with the
outcome where a team of volunteers, museum staff and trustees was involved
in this solicitation. Thanks to Paul, Gordon, Len, John, Kirsten etc.


*** SNOBOL

Henry has formed a group of interested volunteers and new recruits that are
working in a treasure of 72,000 files to be indexed and made accessible.

*** Software Industry Committee

The Software Industry Committee and the Software Preservation group are
working together on several common projects.

*** Helping exhibit committee with the Time Line

A small group of us are contributing to the Time Line effort that the
exhibit committee is working on especially on the software aspect of the
Time Line.

*** We are continuing work on securing Xerox alto and System R software

*** Oral histories are being planned.

If I missed some significant result please post a short status and if you
want more information contact the lead volunteers.

Please find attached the minutes from the last Software Preservation Group
meeting that took place on Wednesday January 17, 2007. Thanks to Dave
Redell.

I have also attached a REVISED schedule for 2007. Note the second change for
the March meeting to Thursday March 29th

REMINDER: We have a way for attendees to call the Hopper conference room
from the building main entrance when the museum is closed. The phone number
(x1053) is listed next to the telephone. If you call us we will be able to
open the door for you.
