I hope his book is a bit more literate than his own description of it 
on his website where he says:

"And yet very little is known about its principle revolutionaries, 
the computer programmers, systems analysts, and other technical 
experts who made possible the computerization of modern society."

MIT Press is not known for providing copyeditors - or at least it 
wasn't in the past.
