Well, it happens to many.

>From my grad school days, I recall an story, perhaps apocryphal, of two
authors who were determined to have a *perfect* paper.

They proofread, proofread, and were delighted when the paper appeared .

at which point one was horrified to find he had a typo in a reference to one
of his own papers.

Yes! As the coauthor of a recent book supposedly carefully proofread by the
authors, friends, and staff at Addison-Wesley, I am both embarrassed by, and
grateful for, the 5+ pages of errata provided by readers of Elements of
Programming (http://www.elementsofprogramming.com).
