Attached FYI is the promised starting point for inquiry into an eventual CHM
digital repository implementation. I will separately send information
towards a requirements specification as quickly as it is in a form worth
sharing.

Note Larry Masinter's question about hosting. I do not currently see any
urgency about settling it, partly because such implementation decisions
should not cloud a careful consideration of objectives and technical
requirements.

You might find it easiest to start by looking at Han's Univ. Arizona
document considering repository selection. (My mentioning it should not be
considered an endorsement beyond the immediate purpose of figuring out what
CHM questions might need to be considered.)

Comments on the attached notes would be welcome. (This could be done by
returning to me an edited version of the MS Word document.) I'll undertake
to integrate comments received into a future version.

P.S. I am aware that my document might imply a great deal of reading.
C'est la vie. In for a penny, in for a pound!

Subject: [SCC_Active_Members] SCC Deliverables and choice of a SW base for
the CHM repository
Importance: High

This note expands on comments I made in the most recent SCC meeting. Since
I do not yet have sufficient access to the SCC e-mail listserv, please
forward this note to the committee.

...

I hope that by tomorrow I can deliver the promised bibliography about
Dspace, Fedora, and Greenstone, with adventitious additions related to the
pending choice of a repository SW base.
