The re-keyed version I recently sent includes PS files of the listings
(as well as text in 1401 tape-to-print format -- column 1 is Fortran 66
vertical-format control).  Making PDF from PS is trivial.  But... it
would be nice to have the real McCoy, including the notes, put into the
computer automagically.

Paul Pierce has scans of the 1401 diagnostics manual as gif files.  It's
easy to turn gif into png.  Could those be processed?  The copy quality
might be too crappy to work.  A sample page is attached.
